Process & Criteria
The selection of the best sustainable and creative websites follows a meticulous, multistep process. It starts with an initial screening to identify websites with a clear emphasis on sustainability and a visually appealing design and then an in-depth review encompassing an examination of digital presence and sustainability practices.
Each website is assigned a score based on their performance. The final selection showcases websites exemplifying a robust commitment to sustainability and design, aiming to inspire the wider digital community.
The evaluation process is based on three specific topics:
Carbon Footprint Management
By implementing tools (such as Greenpixie, Ecograder, Beacon, Website Carbon or Dava) that can calculate and display the carbon emissions, the website should be, above all things, low carbon.
. Estimated CO₂ per page view should produce less carbon than at least 70% of other websites
. Page weight should be less than 3MB
. Content, code and scripts should be optimized to minimize loading times
. Hosting should be eco-friendly to minimize carbon emissions from server operations.
UI/UX Design
The website should have a user-friendly navigation with clear information hierarchy. It should also be responsive and perform well on various devices and screen sizes. It should be accessible for all users, including those with disabilities and include energy-saving user features.
VISUAL DESIGN
Not only should it be low carbon, but the website should be visually appealing and creative and ensure that it aligns with the brand’s message, maintaining a consistent visual identity, including colors, fonts, and branding elements.
Through this structured process and criteria, we recognize and celebrate those dedicated to making the internet greener. Our aim is to inspire positive change and create a more beautiful and eco-friendly digital world.
